Wrong-doing is an interpersonal act that is not reciprocal…be it rape, robbery, reneging on agreements, violence, etc. If a wrong-doing occurs, then some victim bore some cost that was not agreed to.
The Great Uncertainty of Wrong-Doing
All value (benefit/profit) and disvalue (cost) are personal, so the cost of the wrong-doing will vary from Individual to Individual, even if the act of wrong-doing is the same in each case. The victim will seek to be restored or avenged, and how much the victim wants from the villain will vary from Individual to Individual.
Thus, since valuation is personal, perhaps a victim of theft will be content just having the stolen item returned, or perhaps the theft itself was worth more than the cost of the item to the victim and he instead wants an additional fee for the trouble caused.
If a villain is caught spying on an Individual, the Individual lost something to the villain. He lost privacy to the extent to which the spying occurred. That lost privacy is worth something to the Individual, and whatever that value is, he will seek it out from the villain. Some victim may enact a monetary fee, a public apology, or simply disassociation from the villain in the future. Another may want to imprison the villain, or worse.
No Individual can truly know of another Individual, especially the villain as he neglected the only Act (reciprocity) possible of gaining knowledge of another.
The Individual often has true insight into another’s valuations when attempting to exchange with the other. The exchange will happen if it is mutually beneficial. Only after does one Individual know for certain that the other valued that particular Linux machine more than the $399 he exchanged for it. In other words, Individuals learn of one another by not imposing their will, by showing the bare minimum respect to not enslave or rob.
I respect, therefore I learn.
The villain then cannot know what the cost of his actions are to some victim, and cannot know what the victim will want or take in return.
This is the great uncertainty of committing non-reciprocal acts.
